2020 Competition Rules

League Rules and Operation

 

  1. Any member who has paid their fees for the 2020 season may participate in the leagues.
  2. There will be no fee or charge for entry to the leagues.
  3. All matches will be played under the Covid-19 rules, which may be varied at short notice in the event of any changes in government or Bowls England guidelines.
  4. The league season will run from Wednesday 1st July to Tuesday 15 September 2020, which will provide 11 weeks to play the matches.
  5. A League Committee will be established, with the Competitions Secretary as chair, to oversee the operation of the leagues and to resolve any issues which arise.
  6. The following leagues will be open for entry:
    - Ladies Singles
    - Mens Singles
    - Ladies Pairs
    - Mens Pairs
    - Mixed Pairs
  7. The closing date for entries will be 26 June 2020.
  8. Entrants must provide their telephone and email contact details, and agree that they may be communicated to other participants in the league for the purposes of operating the league.
  9. The exact numbers of players/teams in each league will depend on the total number of entrants.
  10. A league will not be run if there are fewer than five entrants to that league.
  11. Depending on the number of entrants, two or more divisions may be created for a league.  Players would be allocated to divisions based on their experience and playing standard.
  12. Each player/team will be responsible for arranging all their own fixtures by direct contact with another player/team in the league.
  13. Each team/player will play all other players/teams twice – “home” and “away”.
  14. Games may be played at any time during the period of the league – 1 July to 15 September.
  15. The “home” player is responsible for booking the rink and arranging the match.
  16. The winning player is responsible for communicating the result to the League Secretary.
  17. Results and league tables will be published on the club’s website.
  18. There will be no trial ends, and full scoring will apply from the first end. No visits to the head allowed. Marker to be used if available.
  19. Singles will be 21-up, but in the event that the match cannot be completed by the end of the booked period, the score at the end of the period will constitute the result of the match.
  20. Pairs will be 12 ends, but in the event that the match cannot be completed by the end of the booked period, the score at the end of the period will constitute the result of the match.
  21. Club or white shirts and greys to be worn for all league matches.
  22. Any matters not covered by the League Rules and Operation will be decided by the club Competitions Secretary.
